With the introduction of the new Monteverde Innova Carbon Fibre, expectations were high—and this latest release delivers a distinctive combination of texture, style, comfort, and writing performance.
A Unique Carbon Fibre Finish
Monteverde’s new Carbon Fibre matte finish immediately stands out. Even from the first photos, the design caught my attention, but holding the pen in person revealed something the pictures simply couldn’t capture: the incredible feel of the material.
The carbon fibre finish has an exceptionally smooth and distinctive texture. There is also a surprising depth to the material that gives the pen a sophisticated appearance. Paired with the matte black trim and black nib, the result is an understated yet striking design.
It’s a pen that feels special in the hand without being overly flashy.
Comfortable Size and Weight
The Innova Carbon Fibre has a comfortable balance of size and weight that makes it suitable for a wide range of writers. Having used several Innova models, I’ve always appreciated how well they accommodate larger hands while remaining comfortable for smaller hands.
The Monteverde Innova Carbon Fibre measures 141mm capped and 158mm posted, providing a very comfortable writing length. Personally, I prefer the additional length when the pen is posted.
The cap posts securely with a satisfying snap, something I’ve particularly enjoyed across the Innova collection. The section measures approximately 12mm in diameter, while the pen weighs 36 grams, giving it a substantial feel without compromising the writing experience.
A Smooth and Reliable Fine Nib
My Innova Carbon Fibre came equipped with a black fine nib, and it performed beautifully right out of the box.
The nib has a slightly stiffer feel, but the ink flow is excellent. The writing experience is smooth and wet, with no skipping or hard starts during my time with the pen.
For this review, I paired the pen with Monteverde Smoke Noir ink, and the combination worked particularly well. Smoke Noir initially appears black but dries to a mid-tone gray, creating a subtle contrast that complements the carbon fibre finish beautifully.
A Comfortable Writing Section
The section is another area where the Innova performs particularly well. Its shape and dimensions make it comfortable to hold for extended writing sessions, contributing to what I found to be an especially pleasant overall writing experience.
The combination of the comfortable section, substantial weight, and smooth nib makes the Innova Carbon Fibre a pen that is easy to settle into and enjoy.
Easy Cartridge-Converter Filling System
The Monteverde Innova uses a standard cartridge-converter filling system, giving writers the flexibility to use either ink cartridges or bottled ink.
For those who enjoy experimenting with different ink colors, the converter is particularly useful. A full converter generally provides enough ink for approximately a week of regular writing, depending on how much you write.
The straightforward filling system also makes the Innova easy to maintain and practical for everyday use.
A Stylish Everyday Fountain Pen
After spending time with the Monteverde Innova Carbon Fibre, I can say that it has quickly become a favorite. The combination of the beautiful carbon fibre finish, black trim, black nib, and smooth tactile surface gives the pen a distinctive personality.
The nib is equally impressive, delivering a smooth and wet writing experience straight out of the box. Beyond its appearance and performance, the Innova’s practical design makes it especially appealing as an everyday fountain pen.
The easy uncapping and secure posting make it convenient for use throughout the day, while its understated appearance feels equally at home in a professional workplace or a personal writing setup.
